Current Status QuarkXpress supports Unicode but are unable to support Indic Unicode which is required in India. Indic Unicode support requires correct matra placement and conjunct formation in various Indian languages. Without Indic Unicode support the vanilla Unicode support is unusable for Indian markets. Summit’s Unique Indic Unicode Rendering Technology Summit has developed technology to render Indic Unicode text correctly in applications that do not otherwise provide Indic Unicode support. We illustrate the effect of this technology through the example of Quark XPress. As Quark XPress does not support Indic Unicode, therefore incorrectly renders Hindi text as shown below. If a user types Hindi text राष्ट्रपति प्रतिभा पाटिल की विदेश यात्रा using a Hindi Unicode font in QuarkXpress in MS Windows XP, it does not correctly render the text as shown below. Screenshot of QuarkXPress with Hindi Unicode font. Indica Unicode QX enables Quark XPress 7.x and 8.x to render Indic Unicode fonts. Summit Indica Unicode QX technology at play: When the same text in rendered using Quark XPress enhanced using Summit Indica Unicode QX, implemented using a Quark Xtension, application’s behaviour changes as shown below. Screenshot of QuarkXpress with Summit’s Indica Unicode QX Summit Proposal: Unicode is the universally accepted standard for Indian languages now. To enable portability of text, search, archival, web and mobile usage all Indian language text must be created in Unicode. Summit NewsPro and Indica now support Unicode. We believe that it is time for your organization to consider adopting Unicode for all production purposes across all language publications. Summit will be happy to advise you to achieve this and make the transition smooth and pain-free. If you'd like to know more about Unicode and its advantages and discuss the feasibility of transition, we'd be happy to arrange a meeting. |
